Lorenzo "Larry" Contreras

Lorenzo "Larry" Contreras, age 93, of Dixon died Tuesday, January 16, 2024, surrounded by family at Franklin Grove Living and Rehab.He was born August 11, 1930, in Dixon, the son of Eustaquio "John" and Florentina (Ruiz) Contreras. Larry was a painter and had worked at KSB Hospital in the Plant Operation Dept. painting and doing maintenance from 1978 until his retirement in 1997. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Larry was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, Dixon Knights of Columbus Council 690 and the Fr. Boland Assembly of the 4th Degree. He married Gloria Brooks on April 11, 1959, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, 5 brothers in infancy, brothers Nelo, Ralph, Jesse, Gilbert, sisters Helen Contreras, Esther Anderson, and Angela Contreras. Larry is survived by his wife Gloria, four daughters Terry (Matthew) Von Ahnen of Elgin, Cheryl Contreras of Dixon, Brenda Contreras of Dixon, DeJuana "Dee Dee" (David) Morgan of Amboy, 14 grandchildren Celeste Von Ahnen, Zachary Von Ahnen, Katherine Von Ahnen, Maria Von Ahnen, Tina Trader, Lisa (Steve Blanton) Trader, Jake (Katee) Trader, Brandon Grossman, Ben Grossman, Anthony (Laura) Morgan, Aaron (Jenn) Morgan, Austin (Jillian) Morgan, Adam (Jessica) Morgan, Alex (Erika) Morgan, 9 great-grandchildren Kora Garren, Lucas Blanton, Landon Blanton, Charlie Trader, Violet Vancil, Kenzlee Trader, Parker Trader, Breanna Grossman, Jace Morgan, one brother Joseph "Chico" (Ruth) Contreras of Dixon, one sister Julia Contreras of Sterling, sister in law Anita Contreras, many nieces, nephews, and other family members he will someday meet in heaven. Funeral services will be on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon with a saying of the rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at St. Patrick Church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A memorial has been established to St. Patrick Church, Dixon, IL, St. Mary School, Dixon, IL and the Alzheimer Foundation of America. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
