Elizabeth J. Wilhelm

Elizabeth "Bette" J. Wilhelm, 85, of Amboy died on May 7, 2016 at Aperion Care Nursing Center in Amboy. Bette was one of 13 children born at home in Amboy on September 2, 1930, the daughter of William and Aileen (Brady) Morrissey. Bette was a graduate of Amboy High School and retired from the Drivers License Facility in Dixon, IL. She was a lifelong active member of St. Patrick's Parish, Amboy and the St. Patrick's Women's Organization. Bette was a loving and selfless mother, grandmother and sister and loved most spending time with her family. Her Catholic faith was her strength throughout life. Bette loved to pray, cook, dance, write poems and help others. Bette was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Nicholas Oester, in infancy; three brothers, Robert Morrissey, in infancy, John (Tiny) Morrissey and Rev. William (Buddy) Morrissey; and one sister, Rosemary Hawks. She is survived by her five children, Greg (Michele Egan) Wilhelm of DeKalb; Maureen (Tim) Oester of Amboy; Jeannine Scheffler of Byron; Colleen (Rick) Considine of Byron and Gary (Lori) Wilhelm of Amboy; son-in-law, Bob Scheffler of Byron; 14 Grandchildren, Chad (Bridgette) Oester, Cari Oester, Cori (Adam Maus) Oester; Hayli, Brady, Heidi and Bryce Scheffler; Sean (Nicole) Considine, Ryan Considine, Megan Considine; Whitney (Brandon) Miller, Tanner, Sydney and Delaney Wilhelm; 10 Great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita Glenn, Frances (Gene) Carroll, Lois Considine, Monica Scorby, Barb Goy and Colleen Koch; brothers, Joseph (Josephine) Morrissey and Larry (Carol Vogelsang ) Morrissey; sister in law, Corrine Morrissey, along with 47 beloved nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 10:30 AM in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, with the Rev. Timothy Draper, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with the Rosary recited at 7:30 PM at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, and also on Thursday from 9:30 AM until time of service in the church. Pall bearers are Chad Oester, Sean Considine, Ryan Considine, Brady Scheffler, Bryce Scheffler and Tanner Wilhelm. A memorial has been established to St. Patrick's Church, St. Patrick's Food Pantry and St. Vincent DePaul Society of Amboy.
