Lois Brownlee

December 9, 1928 - February 9, 2022

Lois Brownlee, 93, of Amboy, joined her Lord on February 9, 2022. She was born on December 9, 1928, to John and Vivian (McNaught) Ouart in Kewanee, IL, graduating from Kewanee High School in 1946. After marrying Dale Brownlee on May 6, 1951, they moved to a farm in Amboy, IL and raised 5 children. He preceded her in death on Oct 8, 1993. On the farm, Lois cooked many robust meals with fresh or canned garden vegetables for the guys baling hay and helping out with farm duties, while tending to rambunctious kids. Like her mother, she sewed some fashionable clothing for the family. Being a dispatcher and bookkeeper for Brownlee Trucking kept her busy, as well as a Mary Kay representative and member of Lee County Home Extension and Red Hat Society. As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Amboy and then Dixon, she helped every Thursday to produce crafts for the annual Christmas Bizarre. She had a subtle sense of humor, and wrote some funny texts. At the age of 88, she joined Facebook to follow her friends and family especially the pictures of the great-grandkids. She was an avid reader and participant of homeopathic medicine, and read current events regularly, assuring her name was not in the obituaries. She is survived by her children: Cheryl (James) Smith of Dixon, David (Tina) Brownlee of Rock Falls, Barbara (Aaron) Goy of Gulf Shores AL, Nancie (Brian) Dempsey of Dixon, Steven (Cathy) Brownlee of Amboy, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, great-granddaughter Isabelle Jones, and 3 brothers Lowell, Dale, and Glenn. Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church in Dixon on Saturday March 5, 2022 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am; service to follow the visitation starting at 11:00 am. Graveside Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Dixon or Amboy EMT and Fire Department. Arrangements by Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.
