Douglas Lee Dysart

January 8, 1937 - May 11, 2022

Douglas Lee Dysart passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL after a 31 year battle with throat cancer with the third occurrence being too much for even him to overcome. Doug was born on January 8, 1937 in Dixon, IL to Wilson and Roseanna (Dement) Dysart. Doug married Delores Sanford on February 16, 1957 at Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church, and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February. Doug attended Dixon High School but did not get his GED until he was in his 50's at Sauk Valley College. He worked at Dixon Publishing Company, Beier Bag Company and Raynor Garage Doors from which he retired. He was a member of St Luke's Episcopal Church in Dixon. Doug enjoyed anything to do with cars, and loved dirt track races in Florida and in the Midwest in the summer. He especially loved his bright orange 1955 Ford truck. Doug is survived by his wife of 65 years Delores of Dixon, IL, daughter Vicki (Gene) Lynn of Rockton IL, and son Tony (Emily) Dysart of Rochelle, IL, grandchildren Shannon (Eric) Riser, Hillary Shaffer, Christa (Dan Embertson) Papke, Courtney (Shane) Balson, Gavin and Oliver Vogal; great-grandchildren Isabelle, Addison, Everly, Elliott, Graham, Parker, Kayden, Ryder, Mary and James. Also survived by sister-in-law Velma Dysart, numerous nieces and nephews, his closest friends in Dixon, his many friends in the racing circle, his Saturday morning coffee buddies, and his wonderful neighbors. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosemary Gardner, brother Dement Dysart, and grandson Cory Dysart. The family would like to give special thanks to his many doctors at the Mayo Clinic and Community General Hospital, the wonderfully caring staff and doctors in the Surgical ICU Unit at OSF St. Francis in Peoria, and finally to Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon for the care they provided the last few days of his life. Per Doug's request, there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later time. Arrangements and cremation by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon, and Doug's ashes will be buried in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. Memorial to Serenity Hospice and Home, and can be sent to the family c/o Jones Funeral Home 204. S Ottawa Ave. Dixon, IL 61021.
