Diana Lynn Nelson

September 4, 1946 - February 12, 2022

Diana Lynn Nelson, age 75 of Dixon passed away on Saturday February 12, 2022. She was born on September 4, 1946, in Dixon and was the daughter of Richard and Gale (Tooey) Brown. Diana was a 1964 graduate of Oregon High School and later moved to and was a lifelong resident of Dixon. Diana was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and beloved by the running community. In 1982 Diana developed a passion for running and never looked back. While competing in hundreds of races over the years, Diana prided herself in never missing a day. Diana currently holds the 6th longest women’s retired running streak in the United States Running Streak Association where she had a streak of 9,396 days (which equates to 25 years, 8 months and two days) before she was sidelined by an injury, but this still didn’t slow her down. She bounced back and continued to run for well over another decade. During her running career she managed to log enough miles to the equivalent of running around the world over four times. She was featured in articles by the Sauk Valley Newspaper and Dixon Telegraph for her running achievements and was a longtime member of the Rock River Running Club, Cornbelt Running Club, Rockford Road Runners, Starved Rock Runners and the Sauk Valley Striders. She is survived by her brother Joel (Nancy) Brown, and her two children, Kim Nelson, Jeff (Amy) Nelson, and grandson Charlie. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday Feb. 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. A private family burial will be Saturday afternoon at St. Mary Cemetery in Oregon. A luncheon will follow mass at the church. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations in Diana's memory can be made to the Dixon Reagan Run. Arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
