Shirley Nauman

Shirley A. Nauman, age 73 of Amboy, died Saturday April 14, 2007 In her home surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren following a short illness. She was born at home December 15, 1933 in Amboy the daughter of James and VeNira (Oester) Sheridan. She was united in marriage to Earl J. Nauman August 19, 1950 at St. Patrick Church in Maytown. Shirley's productive life started in farming with her husband Earl in Lee County. She also worked as a bus driver for Amboy School District 272. She retired only to purchase with her husband Earl the Long Branch Saloon in 1984, which they owned and operated until their retirement on January 1, 2007. She had a strong devotion to her work in the restaurant as well as the patrons and employees. She was a member of St. Patrick Church, the St. Patrick Women's Club and the Amboy American Legion Auxiliary. She had a passion and heart for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and it was evident in the countless hours she spent attending school events. Shirley loved to bake homemade cinnamon rolls from scratch with anyone of her children or grandchildren who were willing to help. Her life reflected her core values of Christian faith and service, and was evident to all who knew and loved her. She enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques, and her bird watching. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son James Nauman; granddaughter Lisa Nauman; brother Francis Sheridan; 2 sisters Helen Sheridan and Patricia Sheridan. Survivors include her husband of Amboy; five sons Dave (Sue) Nauman of Amboy, Dan (Laurie) Nauman of Amboy, Tom (Cheryl) Nauman of Amboy, Joe (Jeanie) Nauman of Yorkville and Dennis (Tonya) Nauman of Amboy; two daughters Kim (James) Goebel of Lena and Teresa Larson of Amboy; nineteen grandchildren Taylor Singleton, Dana (Casey) Considine, Nick Nauman, Tanya (Dan) Ketchum, Jesse Nauman, Lindsey Nauman, Cory (Katie) Goebel, Carl (Rhonda) Goebel, Ryan (Melissa) Goebel, Ashley Goebel, Shane Larson, Shannon Larson, Cody Larson, Travis Nauman, Katie Nauman, Hallie Nauman, Rebecca Nauman, Joey Nauman and Julia Nauman; four great-grandchildren Alexis Ketchum, Bradley Goebel, Leah Goebel and Jimmy Goebel; four brothers William (Helen) Sheridan, John "Jack" (Helen P) Sheridan, Thomas (Kary) Sheridan, Gerald "Jerry" (Jo) Sheridan; three sisters Mary Margaret (Donald) Delhotal, Helen (Pat) McCaffrey and Marlene (Daryl) Zimmerly and many, many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday April 18, 2007 at 11:00 AM in St. Patrick Church in Amboy with the Rev. Carl Beekman Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 17, from 2:00 until 8:00 PM in the church with the rosary recited at 8:00 PM. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until Mass. A memorial has been established.
