Ryan Richard Apple

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce that Ryan Richard Apple, age 31, our most beloved son, brother, family member and friend crossed over into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, December 6th, 2020. Ryan will be missed every day by his loving father and mother, Louis and Christine Apple, his devoted sister and brother-in-law, Lindsay and Zach Wohrley, and his treasured nephew, Carson Wohrley. Ryan was a 2007 graduate of Dixon High School where was, indeed, a shining star to the Dixon Dukes basketball team. Ryan loved the game and his teammates - and together, they were a force to be reckoned with! After a hard-fought game on the basketball court, the media often referred to Ryan as “the big Apple”. Ryan’s love of sports didn’t stop with basketball, he was also a member of the Dixon Dukes baseball team where he owned the mound as pitcher. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, & enjoyed many St. Louis Cardinals games, even making it to one of the World Series games. As much as Ryan loved sports, his true love was for his family and his friends. Ryan held a very special place in his heart for all his closest friends from Dixon, and a special love for Marie McDermott. Ryan had a zest for life and a quick wit that made him such a joy! Ryan’s generous heart was reflected in the way he treated his family and friends, care and compassion were engrained into his very being. Ryan loved to laugh and made sure others did, too! He was an encouragement to those who needed it and never afraid to say “I love you”. Ryan was a dedicated employee, worked hard and never complained. He was a previous employee of Walmart Distribution Center & Mark-Vend Company. He was grateful and appreciative to have a job. Ryan never took life or his family for granted. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Louis Apple, Sr., his maternal grandfather and grandmother, Richard “Dick” and Theresa Walls, his Aunt Debbie Overton and his Uncle Jack Apple. Ryan is survived by his parents, sister Lindsay (Zach) Wohrley, nephew Carson Wohrley and paternal grandmother Margaret "Peg" Apple of Dixon IL. In addition to his cousins, he is survived by his aunts and uncles, Diane (John) Olsen, Rick Walls, Robin (Dave) Hubler, Dean (Linda) Apple, Julie (Carlos) Zuniga, Dave (Stacy) Apple, Theresa (Marty) Frost, Mary (Rick) Rippeon, Scott (Lisa) Apple, and Chris (Sara) Apple. We have, indeed, lost a shining light in this world, but if we look to the heavens and find that brightest star, may we always remember the love and light our precious Ryan brought to so many. Rest in peace, our beautiful boy, until we meet again. Visitation will be at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon, Illinois on Friday December 11th, 2020 from 9am-10:45am, with mass following at St. Patrick Church in Dixon, Illinois at 11:00a.m. All friends & family are welcome to attend. A memorial in Ryan’s honor has been established. A celebration of life will be arranged for a later date. Face masks are required at the visitation and service.
