Robert Leo Lowe

Robert L. Lowe, age 84, of Amboy, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. He was born August 8, 1931, in Pana, Illinois, the son of Leo and Esther (Eiler) Lowe. Robert was a graduate of Macon High School, and first attended Eastern Illinois University then graduated from the University of Illinois College of Agriculture in 1953. He was employed as District Soil and Water Conservationist for 41 years, first serving as a trainee in Hancock and Macon Counties, then D.C. for 12 years in Cumberland County, and then assisted Whiteside County while also serving as D.C. in Lee County, prior to his retirement in 1993. Robert was a Veteran of the US Army. He was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church in Mendota, and had been actively involved in DeKalb Dist. United Methodist Church, serving as Lay Leader for 8 years as well as Annual Member to conference for many years. He was also active in the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. Robert was a Freemason belonging to the Illinois Central Lodge #178, a member of the Amboy American Legion, and the Amboy Lions Club. He married Dena Shirlene Harris, June 1, 1952, in Elwin, Illinois. He was the loving father of Jeffrey Robert and Susan Kimberly. He leaves to mourn his wife of 63 years, Shirlene; daughter Susan (Stephen) Florschuetz of Sublette; daughter-in-law Barbara (Gary Lohse) Lowe of Blue Grass, IA; 5 grandchildren Brooke (Stephan) Kammerer of Blue Grass, IA, Brian (Kelly) Florschuetz of Amboy, Brett (Teresa) Lowe of Elmhurst, Craig (Jesse) Florschuetz of Newport News, VA, and Derek (Kristi) Lowe of North Richland Hills, TX; 7 great-grandchildren Kolton and Kaleb Kammerer, Ty and Cam Florschuetz, Lex Lowe, and Rocco and Arabella Florschuetz. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Jeffrey Lowe, and great-granddaughter Rosa Florschuetz. A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015, at 11:00 AM in the Zion United Methodist Church in Mendota with Pastor Hogun Kim, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery in Lee Center with Military Honors by the Amboy American Legion. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 27, from 2:00 until 6:00 PM with Masonic Services at 5:00 PM in the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. Visitation will also be held on Monday, from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM in the church. Memorials have been established to Serenity Hospice, Zion United Methodist Church, and Midwest Mission Distribution Center.
