Paul Edmund Giblin

Paul Edmund Giblin, age 87, of Amboy, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017, at KSB Hospital in Dixon following a long illness. He was born January 8, 1930, in Harmon, the son of F. Emmet and Gladys (Green) Giblin, the fourth of seven children. He was a graduate of Newman High School, and after serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, he attended the University of Illinois. Paul worked for Caterpillar in Aurora, then became an International Representative for the United Auto Workers Union serving as Region IV Political Action Director until his retirement in 1993. Paul was a tireless voice for working people, organized labor, and civil rights both at work and in his personal life. Paul moved to Amboy in 1989 to be near his aging parents where he was active in the community including the Amboy Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. The center of his life was his family with whom he skied, hunted, fished, or discussed politics whenever he could. In later years, he was often seen working on motors and tending his apple trees at the home he loved. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; siblings James Giblin, Jack Giblin, Rita Giblin, William Giblin, Mary Jean Hartman, and Kathryn Slater. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Roxann Schultz-Giblin; children Paula (Brian) Olson of West Chicago, Michael (Denise) Giblin of Northwoods, Sean (Laurie) Giblin of Downers Grove, Kelley (Kim) Giblin of Eagan, MN, Shannon Giblin of Chicago, and Julie (Brent) Romberg of Brooklyn, IA; nine grandchildren LeAnn Olson, Ashley (Michael) Malachowski, Michelle (Owen) Kuntz, Lauren Giblin, Luke Giblin, Shane Giblin, Regan Giblin, Valarie Giblin, and Amelia Romberg; two great-grandchildren Devan and Mable Kuntz; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at 10:30 AM in St. Flannen Catholic Church in Harmon with the Rev. Richard Kramer, officiating. Burial will follow with Military Graveside Honors by the Amboy American Legion at Holy Cross Cemetery in Harmon. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy with the Rosary recited at 7:30 PM.
