Nancie J. Dempsey

Nancie Jean Dempsey, age 86, of Dixon, Illinois, passed away peacefully Friday April 17th, 2026 surrounded by her loving grandchildren. She was born on December 29, 1939, in Dixon, where she was also raised and spent much of her life. Nancie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She is survived by 2 of her 4 children, Lori Dempsey of Champaign and Scott (Terra) Dempsey of Dixon. Nancie was blessed with a large and loving family, including her 12 grandchildren: Hollie (Mark) Oprian, Noelle (Dustin) Brown, Samantha (Mark) Schaeffer, Jack Vankooten, Michael (Gina) Dempsey, Amanda (Trevor) Bolin, Stephen (Devyn) Dempsey, Karley (Joey) Bonnell, Alexis Dempsey, Jarrett Dempsey, Emilie Dempsey and Kyle Goldman. She was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren (12 girls and 6 boys) and another great-grandson expected later this fall. Nancie was preceded in death by her children Kathy Dempsey and Gerald “Jerry” Dempsey, her parents Ross and Helen (Sauer) Miller and her sister, Marilyn (George) Disch. A woman of deep faith, Nancie was a devoted Catholic and longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church in Dixon. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Nancie spent many years as a homemaker and also lived on a farm, where she lovingly cared for livestock and animals of all kinds. She had an immense love for animals and throughout her life cared for many pets, always treating them as part of the family. Later in life, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, following in the footsteps of her mother who was also a nurse, grandmother who was the county midwife and an uncle and cousin who were both physicians. She proudly dedicated over 20 years to caring for patients in the Dixon area. She found great purpose and pride in her work and was known for her compassion, skill and dedication. Nancie cherished time spent with her family, especially during holidays when she loved cooking and hosting gatherings. She enjoyed traveling, with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart. She spoke often of her cherished memories there. In her later years, she found meaningful companionship with her friend, Russ, with whom she shared the last several years of her life. Together, they enjoyed time with family, friends and spoiling their pets. Nancie will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith and deep love for her family. Visitation will be on Thursday April 23, 2026 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday April 23, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.
