Linda Dummett

Linda Hutson Dummett, 68, of Dixon left this life on Wednesday, November 24 2010 after a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. She was born February 19, 1942 to Henry and Edna Hutson in Sparta, Wisconsin. Her family moved to Illinois in 1951 where they established their residence in the Rochelle area. Linda graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1960 and the University of Illinois in 1965. She received her M.S. in Education in early childhood from Northern Illinois University in 1976. She began teaching young special needs children in Lee County and later taught early childhood classes for the Ogle County Co-op. She retired from the Rochelle Elementary School District in 2005 after 30 years of teaching handicapped and disadvantaged pre-school children. She married Dan Dummett in Madison, Wisconsin on October 9, 1999. Linda was a gracious, intelligent, and compassionate woman. She loved God with all her heart and soul and atttibuted that love to her devotion of serving the handicapped. God's creation of the natural world around us inspired her love of gardening and flowers. She will be missed by her husband, Dan Dummett, his daughters Jill Dummett of Miami, Florida, Jenny Earll of Jupiter, Florida, and Jamie Edwards of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and his five grandchildren Garrett, Samantha, Morgan, Peyton, and Levi, her brothers Richard (Kathleen) Hutson of Albany, California, Lee (Mary) of McFarland, Wisconsin, sisters Carol (Ron) Rand of Rockford, Illinois, Kathleen (George) Bouska of Oregon, Illinois, and Jane Allen of San Diego, California, and many dear nieces, nephews, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her infant sons Brian and John William McLane, brother-in-law Dan Allen, her nephew Jamie Rand, an infant niece, Patricia Hutson and her parents Henry and Edna Hutson. Services will be held at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon on Saturday November 27th at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon following the funeral. Visitation will be on Friday from Nov. 26, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the funeral home. Donations may be given to the KSB Hospice, 215 E. First St. Suite 111, Dixon, IL 61021.
