James Alden Dickinson

James A. Dickinson, age 91, of Dixon, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Heritage Square Health Center in Dixon. He was born May 25, 1924, in Amboy, the son of Oliver and Myrcella (Carroll) Dickinson. Jim worked for the Illinois Department of Mental Health in Kankakee and Dixon. He then worked as Business Manager for Sauk Valley Community College prior to his retirement in 1990. He was a veteran of the Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, Knights of Columbus Council 690, Dixon Elks Club, VFW, and the Dixon American Legion Post 12. He married Geraldine "Geri" Becker June 17, 1950 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy. She preceded him in death Oct. 22, 2006. He was also preceded in death by sisters Harriet Dickinson and Jane Gehant, brothers Harold Carroll, Charles, Robert and Oliver Dickinson. He is survived by his children Greg (Toni) Dickinson of St. Charles, Ann (Peter) Thomas of Saunderstown RI, Julie (Troy) Danko of Parker TX; grandchildren Jenni (Ray) Schuhow of Batavia, Sarah (Ryan) Sulda of Lisle, Katie (Rob) Dixon of Mentor OH, Laura (Joe) Edger of Jenison MI, James (Danielle) Dickinson of Chicago, Justin and Megan Danko of Parker TX; 10 great grandchildren Alex and Sam Schuhow, Jacob and Ella Sulda, William, Emma, and Eleanor Dixon, Lucy, Benjamin, and Erin Edger; sister-in-laws Mary Dickinson and Patricia Becker; special niece and "third daughter" Mary Lee Dogwiler; many nieces and nephews; faithful friend Ken Sharkey and Jim's wonderful, caring Heritage Square family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015, beginning with a 9:30 AM Prayer Service in the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon with the Rev. Antoni Kretowicz, Pastor, officiating, Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy with Military Graveside Rites by the Amboy American Legion. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the Rosary recited at 6:45 PM in the funeral home.
