Harold Rhodes

Harold L. Rhodes age 84 of Dixon died Tuesday July 1, 2008 in the Heritage Square Health Center in Dixon. Harold was born in Dixon, Il on November 20, l923, on a farm south of Dixon, the son of Lester and Julia (Wells) Rhodes. He married Rosemary Torrens on Feb. 13, l945. She preceded him in death on March 22, l995 He then married Theo Walder on August 2 l997. Harold was a 1941 graduate of Dixon High School and after serving during World War II as an Army Air Corps pilot he attended the University of Illinois graduating in l949. He was a founding partner, along with Warren Walder, of Walder & Rhodes Insurance Agency which he owned until his retirement. He was a past member of the First United Methodist Church in Dixon and presently he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dixon. He had been a member and past president of the Dixon Rotary Club and the Dixon JayCees. He had served on and was a Past President of the Dixon School Board. He also served on the Boards of Directors of KSB Hospital, Lee County Health Dept. and Heritage Square. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Dixon Chamber of Commerce and the Dixon Telegraph. Harold is survived by his wife Theo Walder of Dixon 3 sons Lester (Marilyn) Rhodes of Tulsa, OK, Bruce (Karen) Rhodes of Ottawa, Il and Matthew (Jane) Rhodes of Pueblo West, CO. 1 stepson Kirk Walder of Laurel, MD and 1 stepdaughter Lori Reno of Claremore, OK, six grandchildren Christopher(Lauren) Rhodes, Benjamin (Amanda) Rhodes, Susan Rhodes, Ileah (Jared) Baier James Rhodes and Sarah Rhodes, step-grandchildren Christy and Diann Reno, April (Damir) Dzubic, Michael Gray, Alyssa Gray and Jonathan Gray 2 great-grandchildren Nolan Rhodes and Taylor Baier and 1 step-great granddaughter Annie Gray Marsh, a sister-in-law Peggee (George) Southgate, their son Rob (Martha) Southgate and granddaughter Molly Grace Southgate. He was also preceded in death by his parents Lester Rhodes and Julia Rhodes McMahon and a brother John Rhodes. Following a private graveside service in Oakwood Cemetery Dixon there will be Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. Saturday July 5, 2008 in The First Presbyterian Church in Dixon with the Rev. LaVerne Davenport officiating. Friends may call in the church from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M.. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Heritage Square 620 N. Ottawa Ave. Dixon,IL 61021, The First Presbyterian Church 110 E. Third St. Dixon , Il 61021 or the charity of the donor's choice
