Earl Nauman

Earl J. Nauman 84, of Amboy died Wednesday May 11, 2011 in his home surrounded by his children. He was born on June 3, 1926, in Amboy, the son of Joseph and Lucille (Boehle) Nauman. He was united in marriage to Shirley A. Sheridan on August 19, 1950, at St. Patrick Church, Maytown. Earl and Shirley started their lives in farming in Lee County. In 1984 they became the owners of the Long Branch Saloon, until they retired January 1, 2007. During this time Earl continued farming and he invented the Portable Net Tightening Post Assembly and was granted a patent on April 8, 1990. On December 4, 2002 Earl and Shirley became “Grantors,” and developed Nauman Estates in the city of Amboy. Earl and Shirley were devoted to their work in the restaurant and to their patrons and employees. The two things that were important to Earl were his faith and his family. Earl was a Veteran of the US Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; infant son James Nauman; granddaughter Lisa Nauman; two sisters Dolores Leffelman, Shirley Full and two brothers Stanley Nauman, and Mervin Nauman. Survivors include five sons Dave (Sue) Nauman of Amboy, Dan (Laurie) Nauman of Amboy, Tom (Cheryl) Nauman of Amboy, Joe (Jeanie) Nauman of Yorkville and Dennis (Tonya) Nauman of Amboy, two daughters Kim (James) Goebel of Lena and Teresa Larson of Amboy; nineteen grandchildren Taylor Singleton, Dana (Kasey) Considine, Nick (Jenny) Nauman, Tanya (Dan) Ketchum, Jesse (Kendra) Nauman, Lindsey Nauman (Nick Kaleel), Cory (Katie) Goebel, Carl (Rhonda) Goebel, Ryan (Melissa) Goebel, Ashley Goebel, Shane Larson, Shannon Larson, Cody Larson (Krystal Anderson), Travis Nauman, Katie Nauman, Hallie Nauman, Rebecca Nauman, Joey Nauman and Julia Nauman; twelve great-grandchildren Alexis Ketchum, Olivia Ketchum, Logan Ketchum, Liam Ketchum, Bradley Goebel, Jillian Goebel, Leah Goebel, Jimmy Goebel, and Emily Goebel, Madeline Goebel, Payton Goebel, Samantha Nauman and two step-great-granddaughters Julia and Hayley Boat; 3 sisters Clara Mae Ansteth of LaMoille, Janet (Jim) Montavon and Joyce (Rich) Montavon both of Dixon; 1 brother Don (Marilyn) Nauman of Freeport; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May 14, 2011 at 10:30 AM in St. Patrick Church in Amboy with the Rev. Thomas Bales Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy with Military Graveside Rites by the Amboy American Legion. Fellowship luncheon will follow the burial at the Amboy Community Center. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 13, from 2:00 until 4:30 and 5:30 until 8:30 in St. Patrick Church with daily mass at 5:00 PM. The Rosary will be recited at 8:00 PM. A memorial will be established.
