Dorothy A Herwig

Dorothy A Herwig, age 88, of Dixon died Saturday July 3, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. She was born April 17, 1933 in Washington DC, the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Boberg) Lowe. Dorothy enjoyed working and being productive. She worked for many years with her son Jon in the family construction business. She helped with the bookkeeping, oversaw the patching crews and helped finish concrete. “She was the best helper Jon ever had”. She enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, arts and craft shows, and music. Growing up Dorothy looked forward to swimming in Chesapeake Bay with her siblings at the family beach house, but what Dorothy enjoyed the most was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very proud of all her children and grandchildren's achievements. Dorothy was a wonderful baker and cook and made the best pies. She also was a self-taught seamstress and created beautiful hand-knitted and crocheted sweaters and afghans for many family members. One of her dresses was once mistaken for a Vogue designer dress. She was a member of the Dixon YMCA. She married Donald C Herwig Nov. 2, 1951 in Hyattsville, MD. He preceded her in death April 18, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael, four brothers, Richard, Arthur, Robert and Eugene Lowe. Dorothy is survived by her children Donna (David) Hinkle of Weston, MO, Jeffry (Keiichi) Herwig of Pinole, CA, Deb Herwig of Dixon, Karen (Thomas Aguilar) Clarke of Dixon, Jonathan Herwig of Dixon, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. She is also survived by one sister, Carolyn Leighton, of Underhill Center, Vermont and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10th, at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon with Pastor Steve Young officiating. Visitation will be held on July 9th at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Cremation will follow the services. A reception will follow the services Saturday at Greater Life Church, 1403 Hemlock Avenue, Dixon IL. Memorials have been established to St Jude Children Hospital and the Dixon YMCA.
