Lawrence L. Prunty

Lawrence L. Prunty age 95 of Amboy, IL, and formerly of Waterford, WI, died Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the home of his son in Amboy. He was born April 11, 1927, in Andover, SD, the son of Victor and Rosa (Beumer) Prunty. As a Mechanical Engineer, Lawrence was both a designer and a consultant who looked for creative ways to solve problems. He enjoyed designing homes, of which two were built for his growing family. Woodworking was always a favorite pastime, and he got the biggest kick out of showing his children and his grandchildren how to do home projects like decks, dry walling, siding and roofing. He lent his designing talents to all who asked, and really enjoyed seeing their finished results. He was especially thrilled when his vision was incorporated into the new narthex/entryway wall of St. Patrick Church, Amboy and to see it executed so beautifully by the builders. He was a life-long Catholic with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother, praying the rosary daily. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Blue Earth, MN, where he enjoyed remodeling a bungalow and attending daily Mass. In his last weeks, he would tell others that he lived a full life. And, that is without a doubt. He was a son and brother of an amazing family, most of whom he lost too soon. He was a veteran of the Army serving during WWII in the financial division near the end of the war and traveling much of Europe. His work took him and his family to numerous cities in the Midwest where they made wonderful friends and memories. And, he knew, above all, that he was loved by his wife and family. Lawrence married Dorothy Trester Rawling on Dec. 11, 1954 – a union he happily called his “package deal”, as through their union he became a father to four wonderful children. Dorothy was the love of his life for their 57 years together, until her death, Sept. 25, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his step daughter, Renee Rawling, step son Bruce Rawling, granddaughter Mary Prunty, sister Mary Johnson, and five brothers John, James, Ray, Bernard and Reginald "Jeff" Prunty. Lawrence is survived by his children Susan (David) Pettinger, Carla (Terry) Frantz, Mary Graff, Laura (Kurt) Christianson, Kevin (Carol) Prunty, Cassandra (Karl) Niedermann, 22 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Nothing pleased him more than being surrounded by family. Visitation will be on Thursday March 30, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy with the Rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be on Saturday April 1, 2023 beginning with a 9:30 AM prayer services at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy with Msgr. Thomas Dzielak officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St Patrick Cemetery in Amboy. Memorial has been established to Gianna’s House.
