Harold Cavanaugh

Harold E Cavanaugh age 81 of Chandler, AZ and formerly of Polo,IL and Dixon, IL died Friday Sept. 21, 2007 in Chandler,AZ He was born Jan. 12, 1926 in Dixon. IL the son of Henry and Kathryn (Vaile) Cavanaugh. Harold grew up on a farm outside of Polo, IL known as "Cavanaugh's Corner". He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater during WW II. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal, two Bronze Battle Stars, two Overseas Service Bars, Army of Occupation (Germany), and Good Conduct Medal. Following the War he was employed by Commonwealth Edison until his retirement and subsequent move to Arizona. He had also farmed in the Polo area. He was a lifetime member of the Casa Grande VFW Post 1677, He had also been a member of the Dixon VFW Post 540, Dixon American Legion Post 12 and the Dixon Elks Lodge 779. He was married to Mary Ann "Midge" Jenkins in St. Patrick Catholic church Dixon in November of l949. She preceded him in death in April l962 He was also preceded in death by a daughter Ann Marie, brothers William Cavanaugh and Paul Cavanaugh and a sister Helen Cavanaugh Burke. He is survived by children Nora (Robert) Regman, Tempe,AZ. Ellen Cavanaugh Tempe, AZ; Mary Theresa (Don) Cook Mesa, AZ, and Sean (Natalie) Cavanaugh of Dixon, IL 6 grandchildren Job (Erika) Gardner, Kreg Cook, Kole (Jesse) Jonaway, Jarred (Heather) Cavanaugh, Mara Cavanaugh and Jaselyn Cavanaugh, and 4 great-grandchildren Cassidy and Rilee Gardner and Kameron and Kaley Jonaway, brothers Robert Cavanaugh, Alta Loma CA., John (Jackie) Cavanaugh Polo, IL sisters Rita (Loren) Hook, Blue Mound, WI and Mary Kay (Bill) Murphy, LaGrange, IL. Funeral Services will be on Saturday Sept. 29, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. in the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon,IL with the Rev. Michael Morrissey, pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Polo, IL with military rites by the Combined Veterans Group. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the National Veterans Foundation 9841 Airport Blvd. Los Angeles CA 90045 The family would like to thank Johnnie Alegre for his thoughtful care giving and Dr. Marvin Goldstein, his staff and Evercare Hospice for their superb and compassionate care.
