Eugene Thomas Clayton

Eugene T. Clayton age 80 of Amboy died Thursday Dec. 8, 2016 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. He was born April 21, 1936 in Sublette the son of Francis and Hazel (Coryell) Clayton. He had been a welder at Heico in Mendota and was a truck driver for Jim Ambler Trucking in Mendota prior to his retirement. He enjoyed going on the Sublette tractor rides and entering his antique John Deere tractor in parades. He also enjoyed deer hunting. "This is to let all know that read this, I am not sad as I leave this world to join the love of my Lord and my lovely bride which she was also my sweet heart. Although I have died I want the world to know that my lovely sweetheart had lead me to the other world so now her and I will share the funeral and anyone that care to visit Joanne and I before we are sealed in the ever after, can do so. I know I was a sad man when she joined the Lord and believe you me I tried my hardest to be happy that all the pain she had was gone because she was now doing the Lords work and looking after the rest of the family. I know that our children have done what they were supposed to and I dearly love them for that fact. I also want to say at this point Joanne was the reason for my life, had it not been for my lovely sweetheart I couldn't have been what I am or was. I leave this world knowing that I was her number one and Joanne was my number one after the Lord that is the reason we had such a love for each other. I don't want my children to be sad now that I have left this world to join my lovely sweetheart, Joanne. They need to know that is where I am supposed to be. I love all my children and I know they have done what their mother wanted them to do. I want them to enjoy the rest of their lives. Children just move forward and try not to be sad. It may take time but all of you will make a difference in the lives of those that you will come in contact with. I love all of you. -Dad" Gene married Joanne Weaver June 6, 1954 in Amboy. She preceded him in death Jan. 16, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sisters Patricia Ann Groth and Judy Hobbs, and brother Henry "Butch" Groth. He is survived by 3 daughters Patricia Hayenga of Oregon, Illinois, Kathy Clayton of Sterling, and Connie Leffelman of Amboy; 4 grandchildren Lindsay (John) Spinelli, Mason Hayenga, Emily (Luke) Zimmerman, and Kelsey (Justin) Smothers; 7 great-grandchildren Aden, Gavin, and Roman Spinelli, Kaylee and Clayton Zimmerman, and Kennedi and Bree Ann Smothers and one sister Helen Miller of Amboy. Funeral services will be held on Monday December 12, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy with the Rev. Frank Brozenec, and Pastor Bill Ultch, co-officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2016, from 1:00 until 4:00 PM in the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
